Privacy Policy

The Short Version

The administration of this website is devoted to protecting your privacy on the Internet. We would like you to feel safe knowing that the data you leave with us is in good hands. We do not and will not sell your data, or make anything private available to third parties. We cache data that you make public on Last.fm, which is available through their API. This material is only what you have made public on the site. It does not include your email address, or anything else Last.fm may have privately stored. We do not show any of this beyond your name and Last.fm URL publicly, nor is it available to anyone else. Your ratings of bands are visible only to you; your vote is combined with all others to form an average rating, but the rating is never publicly attributed to you.

The site also uses cookies to store some temporary information, and to allow you to stay logged into the site for longer periods without having to re-authenticate. The only data stored in cookies is a session id, your Last.fm name, and your choice of theme for the website.

If any portion of this is unclear, or you simply have questions for the staff, please do not hesitate to contact the site administrator, cppchriscpp. (owner@cpprograms.net)

Full Privacy Policy

This website's administration is committed to protecting the information you entrust to us, as well as any information that we may receive from external sources with your permission. Privacy and security are two major priorities in anything done with the site, so you should rest assured that your data is not going to be misused. This policy should serve the purpose of informing you what information we collect, how it is used, and more importantly how it will not be used. This policy may be amended at times without any notification to you. This should be announced on the site's news page, but this is not guaranteed. We cannot send this to each user personally, as we do not by default collect any easy method to contact you, and in addition some users would be deterred by this.

Personal Information

In order to use this site to its full potential, you are asked to authorize this application to use information provided from a third party website; Last.fm. Upon doing this, you give Bands4us permission to use and display the information you have provided to Last.fm on a public basis. If you are unsure of what information this is, you should take a look at Last.fm's Privacy Policy, which outlines this in explicit detail. It is important to note that only the information they make public is available; we do not have access to or use any more than this. This will be referred to as Last.fm's information for the rest of this document.

In addition to this, you are able to submit some information to the site. There are a few places on the website where you are able to submit information. In particular, you are able to nominate bands for the website. Your user account will be linked with the band, and it will be publicly displayed that you nominated the band. You are also able to change some site settings in various places. This information is stored on the server privately, and is not available to other users or third parties. It is only used to improve your browsing experience.

Location-based Information

This website receives any location-based information you share with Last.fm and caches it, but currently this information is not used for anything. In the future it may be used to localize the site for users in non-English-speaking countries, but until this time it is simply cached privately.

Browser Information

This website collects data from the web browsers of users that use it. This includes Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, Internet Service Providers, referring URLS, and the brand and version of your web browser. This may be stored in conjunction with the date and time of the visit.

Statistical Information

Bands4us does collect some statistical information about its users. This includes some web browser information, as well as information based on user opinion on bands. The most obvious of this is your ratings of bands. You are given the ability to rate bands on our site, and if you choose to do so, this information is stored to the website, and used in the ratings of bands.

Use of Personal Information

We do not share your personal information with third parties, and we cannot contact you using this information. Your Last.fm user name is shown in conjunction with any bands you have nominated to the site, and the URL that Last.fm provides to reach your Last.fm profile is used to link back to your Last.fm profile. It will also be shown with any posts you may make on the site, the bands on the site, or the news articles. The user image that you select to display on Last.fm may also be displayed in conjunction with your user name.

Your ratings of bands, and other similar information you provide is used to create average ratings for bands. The fact that you have rated a band is not visible to any users other than yourself, and the same is true of your numerical rating of the band.
